First year Maggie takes out the top prize!
Hanging up her boots for the summer, East Coast Eagles AFL player Michelle Foscarini was looking for a summer sport that she could continue to play when her AFL days were over.
Knowing very few rules, but very keen to try her hand at the sport, she bowled her first ball on the pitch, and had her new team mate on the ground within seconds…not expecting the pace!
Her ability with the bat was no different! With unbelievable hand/eye coordination, even the representative pace bowlers in the opposition teams couldn’t contain her power.
Scoring three consecutive 50s not out had her finish the Frat T-20 women’s season with 249, averaging 62.25 per game. She was just as impressive with the ball, taking 10 wickets at 16.4 and three catches.
She also represented the Illawarra in the women’s interassociation competition and was the leading run scorer.
These combined performances saw her take out Cricket Illawarra’s ‘Female Cricketer of the Year’ award. Not bad for a rookie!!
The club and all her Maggies teammates can’t wait to see what she does this year when she learns how to block!
